Designing Future for Every Region

ASUNOOTO was established in order to build a good relationship between urban and rural areas in Japan not by judging which is more economically profitable, but by cooperating with each other. They’re making a place for learning and community activities to connect urban and rural areas; such as Satonova University, CHIIKI KYOSO COLLEGE, and SHIMA NO TAISHIKAN. The name ASUNOOTO expresses their harmony for future by combining two symbolic words “ASU” which means “tomorrow”, and “OTO” which means “sound” in Japanese. Besides, ASUNOOTO sounds like “us” and “note” in English, which means that each one of them are eager to depict the future. They aim to design their ideal future by themselves, working together harmoniously.

Challenges

Building a New Relationship between Urban and Rural

In these days, the number of people who change their jobs is increasing. We need to live acquiring skills and experiences depending on the occasion and the times. ASUNOOTO is looking for ways out of various social problems like lifetime employment or population decline, searching for a brand-new style of living.

Solutions

Depicting a Sustainable Future Both for Urban and Rural

We designed ASUNOOTO’s branding by introducing their activities through SNS and the website. Firstly, we introduced their exchange events with people living in local areas. Secondly, we posted the information of their activities to learn regional revitalization models in Ama-cho (Shimane prefecture), Nishiawakura-son (Okayama prefecture), Onagawa-cho (Miyagi prefecture), and Shintomi-cho (Miyazaki prefecture), which are the representative revitalizing regions among rural areas in Japan. Finally, we also featured their other projects like CHIIKI KYOSO COLLEGE and Satonova University.

Results

Constructing a Progressive Model Case

ASUNOOTO succeeded to make a major movement of forming communities by challenging to be a self-example of working from wherever, with whoever you like through the communication between urban and rural areas. They realized to make a new model case to design your life and works as you like without being tied to your status or place of residence by being flexible to the changing values of urban and rural areas, and relationships with others.
