What Is Young Leadership? Grow the Ability to Entrust

- Build a foundation for people to decide for themselves, rather than choosing someone to pull others

Young leadership is not only the power to pull people strongly. It is the ability to listen to others, think independently, and take responsibility for needed decisions. When young people do not grow, the cause is often not lack of ability, but the absence of visible criteria for the decisions entrusted to them.

Why Do Young People Not Grow?

Why Do Young People Not Grow?

Roles alone do not grow decision criteria

Roles alone do not grow decision criteria

Many companies want to entrust work to young people but cannot do it well. Tasks are handed over, while decisions remain with managers. Challenge is expected, but there is no premise that failure is allowed. In that state, young people search for the correct answer rather than think for themselves. What is needed is not giving titles early. It is clarifying what should be valued in decisions and how far a person may choose for themselves. Young leadership grows through experience and reflection.

Not pulling people, but moving the room forward

Not pulling people, but moving the room forward

The future image of leadership is not limited to a person who moves others with strong words. It is someone who listens to different views, aligns the purpose, and decides the next step. Young people do not need to carry large decisions from the start. They can organize points in a meeting, suggest small improvements, or speak to someone who is struggling. These small actions become the entry point to agency. Leadership is not a trait possessed by only a few people. It is a habit of judgment grown across the organization.

The abilities to listen, think, decide, and reflect

When developing young leaders, it is better not to think of ability too broadly. First is the ability to listen: receiving the other person's position and background. Next is the ability to think: organizing gathered information in light of the purpose. Third is the ability to decide: choosing even a small matter as one's own judgment. Last is the ability to reflect: looking at the result and improving the next decision. With this cycle, internal branding and organizational adoption do not remain someone else's task. Each person becomes able to use the company's way of thinking.

Grow reasons to act through experience

Grow reasons to act through experience

In the PROJECTS case WiLLSeed, BOEL rebuilt the brand from a company seen as a training provider into a company that creates places where people challenge, learn, and change. At the center was the belief that people's will is grown through experience, not only through verbal instruction. https://www.boel.co.jp/projects/willseed/ Young leadership needs the same perspective. People do not change simply because a role is given to them. Through experiences of thinking, trying, and reflecting, they gain reasons to act on their own. Development is not teaching the correct answer, but creating a place where people can make judgments.

Is Leadership Needed Only by a Few?

Is Leadership Needed Only by a Few?

Build an organization where everyone carries small decisions

Build an organization where everyone carries small decisions

As an organization changes, it becomes difficult for one leader to see everything. Businesses increase, ways of working change, and customer expectations shift. That is why each person on the ground needs to carry small decisions. Spreading management direction does not mean making people memorize words. It means making the direction usable in daily judgment. When young people can explain the company's thinking in their own words, the organization becomes stronger. Leadership appears not in titles, but in action.

Decide the judgment to entrust before the task

Decide the judgment to entrust before the task

The first decision is not who should become a leader. It is which judgment will be entrusted to young people. For example, entrust them with organizing meeting issues, choosing a small improvement proposal, or drafting a response to a customer. Then clarify the criteria for judgment and the range in which consultation is welcome. After entrusting the work, do not evaluate only the result. Ask why they thought that way and discuss how to improve next time. When this continues, young people change from waiting for instructions to thinking for themselves.

Design the Decision turns development into culture

Design the Decision turns development into culture

BOEL does not see young leadership only as an individual trait. We see it as the design of what the company values, which decisions it passes to the field, and through which experiences people are developed. People grow when entrusted. Yet entrusting without decision criteria creates anxiety. Design the Decision does not confine development to effort or experience alone. It clarifies the judgments needed for the company's future and prepares them so young people can use them in their own words. From there, leadership becomes not the strength of a few people, but organizational culture.
