So many ways to use it! How to create an original pressure-sensitive brush

You can also draw using Photoshop
TIPS vol.3 So convenient once you use it! How to use a pen tablet explains the basic usage of pen tablets.
Even without a pen tablet, you can create illustrations in various styles by using different brushes in Photoshop.
This section introduces everything from how to create brushes to how to use them.

Basic setup method
Create a brush using Photoshop
Open Photoshop and bring up the Brush window. Check “Shape Dynamics” and set “Control” to “Pen Pressure.”
By adjusting the percentage of “Minimum Diameter” below, you can control line thickness based on pen pressure while drawing.
I want to draw lines with variation in thickness
- I want dynamic, energetic lines → set “Minimum Diameter” to a lower percentage
- I want consistent line thickness with minimal variation → set “Minimum Diameter” to a higher percentage

Settings for a hand-drawn style brush
Scattering
We make the brush edges irregular to create a textured, hand-drawn feel.
Start by selecting a brush with a jagged edge, then adjust it in the Brush window.
Enable both “Scattering” and “Texture” in the Brush settings.
In “Scattering,” adjust the controls inside the red frame to make the brush edges look rough and uneven.
You can also enable “Wet Edges” and “Airbrush” under “Other Dynamics” to add variation in shading and opacity.

Save the configured brush
Save your custom brush
With the Brush Tool selected, click on an empty (white) area in the Brush Presets panel to finish.
By doing this, you can use the same brush settings again the next time you need it.
Very convenient!

Bonus
How to use the Smudge Tool
By using the Smudge Tool together with the Brush Tool, you can create blending and smudging effects.
Simply drag the Smudge Tool over the boundary between colors.
With just this, you can freely achieve hand-drawn-like blending and color bleeding.
Give it a try.
