So convenient once you start using it! How to use a pen tablet

How to use
The pen tablet I use is the Wacom Intuos4 series.
The Large size (dimensions: 474 × 320 × 14 mm) makes it feel as easy to use as drawing on paper.
Let’s master pen tablets for creative work such as illustration, manga creation, and photo editing!

Introduction
Is a pen tablet difficult to use?
In fact, it’s just like using a pencil or pen.
Once you get used to it, you’ll be able to draw various styles of illustrations on a pen tablet just as if you were drawing on paper.

What is a pen tablet?
It becomes this convenient once you get used to it!
A pen tablet is a convenient tool that lets you freely operate your PC using the included pen.
Instead of a mouse, it offers the ease of use of a ballpoint pen or brush, allowing you to create hand-drawn illustrations directly on your computer.

Before using it
First, how to hold the pen
Hold it just like a pencil or ballpoint pen. Tilt it slightly to make it easier to grip.
Since it has pressure sensitivity, tilting the pen too much can reduce responsiveness.
It’s better to keep the pen tip relatively upright.
To move the pointer on the monitor, simply hover the pen slightly above the tablet surface and move it—the cursor will follow.

Let’s trace an image
Import the image into your PC
Scan the image and import it into your PC.
While adjusting the Levels adjustment slider in Photoshop, remove dirt and make the lines clearer.
Make sure to enable the preview and adjust carefully so that the lines do not disappear.

Base coloring
Try changing the brush texture
Using a brush with jagged edges at this stage creates a hand-drawn texture.
Lowering the brush opacity makes it easier to create complex gradients.

Drawing in details
Master pressure sensitivity
Vary the pressure to draw fine wrinkles.
You will be able to control line thickness by adjusting how hard you press with the pen.

Finishing
How do you create depth?
Adjusting the sharpness of outlines helps create a sense of depth.
For foreground elements, make the outlines sharper using edge detection.
Using edge detection can also create a watercolor-like bleeding effect.
For background elements, reduce opacity and soften the outlines with a large brush.
Instead of using an eraser, use a white brush to create a soft, airy impression—like delicate flowers.
